  HISTORY

25 years and counting.
The year was 1967. The world Expo was in Montréal and Canada was on the map. Matija and Luka Bota — with little Anna in tow — emigrated to Canada just as much of their family had recently done. As descendants of a long line of restaurateurs, their goal was to be with family and open a restaurant of their own.

Having found work in Sudbury, they started there. In 1973, they managed enough to settle in Ottawa where most of their family was. One step closer, yet it wasn't until 1978 that they could open the doors of the "Dubrovnik" restaurant.

The concept was simple and uncompromising. "Treat each and every guest as guests in their own home." This meant of course only fresh, home-cooked food and the finest service. Anna herself was a waitress. It also meant long hours in the kitchen and in the restaurant. But the Bota's persisted and the guests kept coming back. So much so that they moved to the new, larger location. The name was changed to "New Dubrovnik" to reflect the milestone.
